This is why we introduce new product lines like we did this month with our 3-D children's books, and why we were the first publisher to introduce eLIVE more than two years ago, giving readers the option of downloading a digital file of the audiobook for free when purchasing the print book. Other publishers are now beginning to copy this service on the audiobook side, which reinforces our belief that we are at the forefront of this industry and are affording our authors the very best in products and services that allow them to compete and gain a competitive edge.
With our new line of 3-D children's books, we have introduced into the marketplace an option no other publisher has created, once again enabling our fine authors to garner more attention than ever before.
Most publishers introduce books into the marketplace, run the books out to stores, and hope something sticks. If it doesn't succeed, the publisher just attempts to find success with the next project coming down the pipeline, often leaving the previous project in the rearview mirror.
That's not our model. We recognize that the book industry is more fragmented than ever before, and more books are being sold outside the bookstores than inside for the first time in history. Does this mean we abandon our relationships with Barnes and Noble, Family Christian, Borders, Mardel, Lifeway, and others? Of course not...but it does mean that we are smart and nimble enough to move our authors beyond the bookstore and take their books to their audience, rather than expecting the audience to come find them.
This new level of marketing allows us to make anywhere and everywhere a venue for selling books. In fact, I just checked out our updated online events calendar, and you know what I found? Churches, roundtable discussions, craft fairs, book festivals, and restaurants...in addition to all the major big box retailers. With over 450 events on our calendar in December 2009 alone, we are covering more ground than ever.
And now with more product offerings that can extend the life of a book and introduce books to a whole new audience, Tate Publishing authors can gain more attention in more places than ever before, and far more opportunity than offered by any other publisher.
We are thrilled to be at the leading edge of the industry, but it makes us even more proud that our authors - the lifeblood of this industry - have a better chance than ever to succeed long-term as we continue to create more ways for their books to stand apart from the pack.
